The LTOs
Zaxby's is layering two limited-time offerings onto its holiday menu across more than 1,000 units in 24 states: a Honey Chipotle Sauce and a Peppermint Cookies & Cream Shake, both available nationwide from November 2 through January 18. The move extends the Atlanta-based chicken chain's seasonal menu calendar into the Q4 daypart — a window where QSR operators increasingly compete on LTO novelty to sustain traffic and average check.
The Honey Chipotle Sauce, formulated with honey, brown sugar, red chili, and chipotle peppers, is positioned as a new vehicle for the chain's core Chicken Fingerz and Wings platform. The Peppermint Cookies & Cream Shake is a hand-spun peppermint milkshake topped with cookies-and-cream pieces — squarely targeting the dessert daypart that fast-casual and QSR operators have leaned into more aggressively as beverage and dessert attach rates become meaningful levers for AUV improvement.
Loyalty and Digital Channel Play
The rollout includes a structured early-access window for Zax Rewardz members, who can order the Honey Chipotle Sauce beginning October 26 — a full week ahead of the general launch — exclusively through the Zaxby's app, Zaxbys.com, and third-party delivery. The digital-exclusive early window is a familiar loyalty-activation tactic across the QSR segment, used to drive app downloads, reinforce loyalty program enrollment, and generate first-party data ahead of a broader campaign. It also concentrates early off-premise volume through owned and third-party digital channels, where operators typically see higher average checks than in-store walk-up orders.
Chief Marketing Officer Patrick Schwing framed the launch as the opening of a broader Q4 content slate. "We're inviting guests to add their own sauce to their favorite holiday traditions, and our holiday menu is just the beginning," Schwing said. "We have even more saucy surprises for fans to unwrap later this season." Festive packaging on the chain's Zax Packz bundle offering is also part of the seasonal push, targeting group and catering-adjacent occasions common to the holiday period.
Segment Context
The dual LTO strategy — one savory sauce extension, one dessert beverage — mirrors playbook moves seen across the chicken-centric QSR segment, where chains including Raising Cane's, Chick-fil-A, and Wingstop have used sauce innovation and seasonal beverage introductions to differentiate without adding significant kitchen complexity. For Zaxby's, which earned QSR Magazine's Transformational Brand of the Year recognition in 2025, sustaining menu momentum into Q4 is consistent with a broader effort to grow brand relevance as it pushes past the 1,000-unit threshold.
The chicken segment continues to outpace broader QSR traffic trends, supported by favorable consumer price perception relative to beef-forward categories and steady protein supply. Sauce-led menu innovation in particular carries low incremental food cost relative to its potential impact on check size and frequency — making it an operationally efficient LTO lever for franchisee-heavy systems concerned with unit economics and store-level margin.
With the November 2 general launch, Zaxby's is positioning its holiday menu to compete for the same Q4 share-of-stomach that drives seasonal LTO strategy across the broader fast-food landscape — a window that typically runs through mid-January before chains pivot to new-year value messaging.
